Plaid Shorts

Can someone explaing to me why Plaid Shorts are cool.  Please.  I am the owner of three pairs now and still don’t really get it.  I’m not saying they don’t look good.  I’m just saying they are pretty much the opposite of cool when I was in highschool.  I know trends cycle and change over time, so I guess I’m just getting old.  I could bet money that Plaid Pants will be in style soon and I can borrow my grandpas old golf pants to fit in.  He would be so proud.
